Referee Resources

Hurlstone Park Wanderers is a community club that promotes playing football in an inclusive manner, with respect for opponents, officials, and for the love of the game.

We encourage both our junior and senior players to become qualified referees, as the numbers are constantly under pressure.

Officiating in Football Canterbury competitions is overseen by the Canterbury Referees Association. They administer and train all referees in the district.

If you’re interested, please visit their website to discover how you can become a referee.

Game Leader Program 2023

Game Leader Program 2024 A great opportunity for our junior players to learn leadership skills, have fun and earn some pocket money.

Are you (or do you know someone who is) between 12 and 17 years old, someone who loves football, and is looking for some weekend work? We have the perfect opportunity through our Game Leader Program. HPW has a great record of developing young match officials for the game through our MiniRef program that has operated for many years. In fact, our current Game Leader Coordinator started out as a MiniRef back in 2007!

Our program has produced many of the current CRA Referees, as well as giving our kids the opportunity to develop football and leadership skills, earn some pocket money and hang out with their mates at the park on the weekend. Our Mini Ref program was such a success that it encouraged other clubs to develop similar programs, and Football Canterbury have now formalised this as the Game Leader Program. Our club was the first to begin a training program for Game Leaders.

What is involved?

To become an accredited Game Leader, you need to sign up here. Gemma and Jackie will then start the training process (after an initial discussion) and appoint you to games.

  • We will let you know about the information and training sessions (this is a short info session that if not compulsory, but you do need to attend a training session to be part of the program – this is a one hour session at Ewen Park).
  • Once you have completed the training session you can be allocated to Little Lions games as a game leader.
  • For games for U8s and U9s, you will first be allocated along with a peer mentor (partner). Each of you will be game leader for half a game and observe your peer for half a game. You will receive feedback from our Game Leader Coordinators and from your peer mentor.
  • The Game Leader Coordinators will decide when you are ready to be a fully accredited Game Leader. From then on you can be appointed to games in your own right.
  • Our experienced Game Leaders will be appointed to u10s, u11s and u12s games.
  • We may also ask Football Canterbury Referees to appoint Game Leaders for u10s-u12s Games.

We will be continuing this process in 2024 and we already have many new keen young people who are signed up to join the program. But we still have room for more so please let us know. Why is it great to be a Game Leader? You get to watch football and run around on a Saturday or Sunday morning. You earn some pocket money. You get a sausage (or equivalent) and a drink from the canteen. You learn some great skills.

Last year we expanded our Game Leader program to cover u10-u12 games. This means our most experienced game leaders (and those who develop experience and show promise during the season) will also be appointed to these games. Lots of these games are on Sunday so we need to know about your availability.

We have a sliding scale of payment for game leaders for 2023, reflecting the time and responsibility:

  • Little Lions (U6s and U7s): $10 per game
  • U8s and U9s:
    • Trainee Game Leaders $10/game (game leader for a half, observe for a half)
    • Accredited Game Leader $15 per game
  • U10s-U11s: Accredited Game Leader $20 per game
  • U12s: Accredited Game Leader $25 per game

If this sounds like something that you or your child is interested in getting involved with, get in touch with Gemma and Jackie at gameleader@hurlstoneparkwanderers.com.au or fill out the Google form here.

RESULTS AND REFEREE PAYMENTS AND REFUND SUBMISSION

At Hurlo we refund all official payments made by managers for Football Canterbury and State games played during the season.

Dribl Match sheet and Referees reimbursement instructions

  • Make sure you have set up your payment information with the club. All managers will receive email instructions about how to do this.
  • Make sure you enter the score in Dribl immediately after the game.

Referee Payments

This link lists the amount each team will need to pay the Referees for each game, by age group and division.

Managers should have these amounts in clearly marked envelopes and pay the Referees before the game begins.

Please note the following:

  • Do NOT pay volunteer Referees. We only pay Canterbury Referees Association appointed Referees.
  • If the other team forfeits on the day (does not turn up to play) do not pay the Referees. The Referees will be paid for these games, but the full amount is paid by the forfeiting team, and the Referees need to complete a form and submit it directly to Football Canterbury.
  • If you have to pay Game Leaders or Blue Vest referees, please email hpwpayments@gmail.com with details of the game and screen shot of the match in Dribl for reimbursement.

Pre-Season and other games

Email admin@hurlstoneparkwanderers.com.au for reimbursement of pre-season or other games. Make sure to include details of payments for the games, including pre-season trial games and State Cup or Champion of Champions.

For pre-season games, the Club will reimburse the cost of Referees and ground hire for one external game (at another club’s field) up to a maximum of $150 per season. If you organise more games than that the cost is to be paid by the team.

If the cost is greater than $150 please contact treasurer@hurlstoneparkwanderers.com.au if there are special circumstances that necessitate a higher cost. For intra-association games, notification to the Club in time for us to notify the Association is sufficient.

Match sheet and Referees reimbursement instructions

A quick summary of the steps for teams to record results and Referee payments. We need these for all teams before midday on Monday, as that is the deadline for entering them (and earlier is better).

  1. If you are the home team, bring your match sheet back to Ewen Park canteen on Sunday night (these need to be returned to the CDSFA offices, and so we really need them).
  2. If you are the away team, take a note of your result (taking a photo of the match sheet for your records, and if we need it is a good idea, but you do not need to send us that photo, unless we ask you to.
  3. For all teams (home AND away) fill out the google form that asks you to record the result and the number of Referees. Please use HPW 2021 Official payment submission form which serves two purposes – you will get reimbursed for referee fees and we will have your result.
  4.
